We be bowlin'...

The Huskies finished the season 7-5, good enough to land into the bowl madness that comes about each December and January. No, we aren't playing on New Year's Day or even the weekend leading up to what used to be considered the greatest day for college football each year. But, considering the meltdown that occurred in Pullman this year, heading off to Vegas playing against a ranked Boise State team is not half-bad.

After the Huskies failed to reach 8 wins and lost to the worst team in the conference, I thought the team might be destined for the KRAFT Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco against Navy. Thank Don James that is not the case. For one, the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl is much more respected. Second, what a great destination for fans. And third, we probably would have had a tough time against that crazy triple option that Navy runs. Can you imagine the UW defense chasing around three dudes at any given time not knowing exactly who has the ball? I know the defense has come along way, but us Husky fans have a strong memory of the bad defenses that haunted us for the last decade.

The selection to play against the #19 Broncos helps salvage a season that at one point was looking like a disappointment, then righted the ship with a four game win streak and finished with an egregious loss to our rival. Think about it this way, though. If we would have gone 8-4, we would have been selected for either the Alamo, Holiday or Sun Bowls. The three teams the Pac-12 is playing against this year in those bowls are Texas, Baylor and Georgia Tech. Think about that. Instead, fans get to go to a sold out game, in Vegas, against a ranked Boise State squad. Isn't that much better than the other scenarios? I know we will always look back and see that this was a 7-5 season with a loss to the Cougs, but in terms of bowl selection, I am not sure it could've lined up any better.

What's the point of this blog post? Simple. It can always be worse. We Husky fans thrive on, 1, what could have been and, 2, why things are somehow, perpetually always looking up. It's in our DNA. Husky football has not given us much to cheer about in the last decade but we still watch, we still live and breath purple and gold. That is why I wrote this post, to let you know that despite the fact we could have had our best record since I was in high school, things are always looking up for the Huskies.

Go Dawgs!!!
